"I started this company so we could create great entertainment for the whole family and all the artists could be proud of the work and we could be happy living where we work."
Marc Dole Founder Hatchling Studios
In 1992, Hatchling founder Marc Dole did indeed work on freelance video and animation projects from his garage. After eight years of contract work, including a lead animator role for PBS and a CGI Effects Department Head at a stop-motion studio, Marc was confident that he could start his own business. In 2000, he and a partner founded M2-3D to service video companies and ad agencies. In the following three years, the partner moved on and 7 employees came on board.
By the end of 2003, big changes were underway. The company's web department rivaled the original animation and video production services in terms of workload and profits. M2-3D had received national attention for its animation for clients such as Bose, Court TV, Fisher Price, and more. Animated movie ideas were brewing.
When it became clear that this was more than just a great production house, but instead one of New England's premier creative tech companies, Marc decided a name change was in order. On January 1st, 2004, M2-3D became Hatchling.
